In the 1500s, it was pearls that connected the cities of Dubai and Venice. Today, it is world-class air travel or, more specifically, the world-class travel of Emirates Airlines that continues the rich history of the two luxurious cities.
On July 1, 2007, Emirates will begin its non-stop service from Dubai to Venice. It will relink the two cities five times a week and will move to a daily service later in the year.
“The opening of Venice represents a strategic gateway for Emirates thanks to the catchment area which covers all of the eastern regions, in particular Veneto and Friuli where there are a number of important Italian industries,” commented Manager Italy, Iberian Peninsula and States of the Former Yugoslav Republic Massimo Massini.
“Our non-stop service will connect our extensive network to Venice and the surrounding areas,” elaborated Emirates Europe Commercial Operations Senior Vice President Keith Longstaff. “This includes the Italian cities of Verona, Trieste, Florence and Bologna; as well as the neighbouring country of Slovenia.”
“Venice is a popular tourism destination and an important gateway in northern Italy for commerce. Our new service will contribute to Italy’s many flourishing small- and medium-sized businesses providing increased access to Venice from major other cities around the globe via Dubai.”
The airline will be promoting the new route with an outdoor and press advertising campaign involving a historic Venetian sailing ship. The campaign will be targeted at main magazines, newspapers and the trade press.
Emirates will operate the Venice-Dubai service with an Airbus A330-200.
