Porto Seguro is located in the Southern coast of Bahia State, also known as Discovery Coast – 1,200 km North of Rio de Janeiro and 800 km South of Salvador. In the Portuguese language, Porto Seguro means safe port and the city received this name because it was the first place where the Portuguese colonizers set foot in Brazil (1500). Porto Seguro is an ecological paradise, where culture and history blend into the past of a place which is the cradle of Brazilian history. Astonishing beaches crossed by rivers, coconut palms, surrounded by the Atlantic Forest, mangroves, cliffs in all textures of colours and coral reefs.

Porto Seguro was declared by IPHAN (the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage of Brazil), since 1973, as a Natural National Heritage and recognized by UNESCO, in the year 2000, as a Natural World Heritage Site. When visiting Porto Seguro, it is worth to visit as well Arraial d’Ajuda and Trancoso.
