Spanish duo Miguel Angel Jiménez and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño are confirmed to play in this year’s Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry from September 20-23.

With a string of victories to his name, the pony-tailed, cigar-smoking Jiménez is a two-time European Ryder Cup Team member and one of the game’s greatest characters. Following a highly impressive display and 12th place finish at The Open Championship at Carnoustie last month, he is currently 24th on The European Tour Order of Merit.
Rising star Fernandez-Castaño, the 2005 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year, already has a couple of European Tour titles under his belt and continued to build on this success in 2007 with victory at the Telecom Italia Open in Milan earlier in the year.
Both are perfectly poised to challenge for the coveted Quinn Direct British Masters title and £1.8 million prize fund at The Belfry.
Jiménez said: “There are always some really great players competing in the event each year and I am very excited about returning to The Belfry and competing against such a strong field.”
Fernandez-Castaño commented: “I am really looking forward to returning to the UK for The Quinn Direct British Masters in September. The Brabazon is a fantastic course and I can’t wait to challenge for another European Tour title.”
With the prestigious tournament just six weeks away, the confirmation of the Spanish contingent adds to the host of Europe’s top golfers already confirmed including Lee Westwood, David Howell, Paul McGinley, Johan Edfors and Richard Sterne.
Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, Managing Director of promoters International Sports Management said: “With The Quinn Direct British Masters fast approaching, the line-up of confirmed players is getting more exciting week by week and I am convinced we are going to have a memorable week.”
