Thailand offers heaven on earth for tourists, promising all manner of leisure activities and comforts: sun, sand, sex, you name it.
But, Wednesday will be an exception when the entire country takes the day off to honor their beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej and celebrate his 80th birthday.
Wednesday will be a national holiday. All bars, entertainment centers and massage parlors will close. Alcoholic beverages and bumbum (a Thai term for sex) will be prohibited. The regulation will be strictly imposed.
Known as the world's longest reigning monarch, King Bhumibol is much loved and revered by the people of Thailand.

Every house, store, street corner and public place in Thailand's cities, including Bangkok, displays pictures of the multi-talented king in different poses. Some pictures displayed in stores nearby Bangkok's Rajamangala stadium show the king holding an old-fashioned camera or saxophone, while others show the king's involvement in charity activities.
Birthday celebrations for the king will take place in Bangkok on Sunday at the Royal Plaza, followed by a four-day fireworks display starting at Phisanulok Road on Tuesday and then in nine spots along the Chao Phraya River on Wednesday.
Childom and Siam BTS stations will host the fireworks on Thursday, with the last fireworks display to be set off at Benchakiti Park (Queen Sirikit National Convention Center MRT station) on Friday.
The king himself will make his public address at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday from the balcony of Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall, situated in the Grand Palace compound. More than one million Thais are expected to attend to catch a rare glimpse of the much-loved king and to shout out "long live the King!"
