To begin your private tour to the Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri, you will be collected from your hotel at 8am to drive to Agra, 124 miles (200 kilometers) from Delhi, and home to the sublimely beautiful Taj Mahal.
The Taj was built by the Moghul emperor Shahjehan in 1630 as a tomb for Queen Mumtaz Mahal, who died giving birth to their 14th child. The death of Mumtaz left the emperor so heartbroken that his hair is said to have turned gray overnight. Construction of the Taj began in the same year and was not completed until 1653.
After lunch at a restaurant of your choice (at your own expense), you will visit the Agra Fort, the Halls of Public and Private Audience and the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daullah, built by Empress Noorjehan in memory of her father.
On your return to Delhi on your private tour you’ll visit Fatehpur Sikri, 24 miles (40 kilometers) from Agra. Fatehpur Sikri, was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569 and was abandoned after 15 years due to scarcity of water. The graceful buildings you’ll see include the Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal and other nearby palaces.
