Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has appointed Rob Weeden as general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns.

Mr. Weeden succeeds Mr. Bruno Cristol, who has transferred to Shangri-La’s Golden Sands Resort, Penang.

Mr. Weeden has 12 years of experience with the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group, which he joined in 1997 as director of marketing of the Australian Regional Sales Office in Sydney. He has subsequently held director of marketing positions with Shangri-La properties in Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur and more recently Sydney, until moving into operations in 2007.

“Being posted to Cairns is like winning the lottery. The hotel is outstanding, the people are wonderful and it is complemented with great weather and the envious Queensland lifestyle,” said Mr. Weeden.

Prior to joining the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group, Mr. Weeden worked with Hamilton Island and Holiday Inn. He is an MBA graduate of Charles Sturt University, New South Wales.
