The Botanic Gardens in Singapore is this year celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding and will host a number of special events and exhibitions to mark the occasion.
Founded in 1859 the Singapore Botanic Gardens now welcomes more than three million visitors every year, making it one of the city-state's most popular attractions. It is the only botanic garden in the world that opens from 5 a.m. to 12 midnight every single day of the year, and does not charge an admission fee, except for the National Orchid Garden.
It boasts an orchid culture that is reportedly the most comprehensive in the world and one of the largest collections of rare palms in Asia.
In July this year, an exhibition dedicated to the pioneering scientists Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace will open at the gardens, followed by a photographic display exploring the world's rainforests due to open in December.
While it is known for its high-tech inner-city features, Singapore boasts a number of natural attractions including the Bukit Timah nature reserve, the Buloh wetlands and the Night Safari.
