This Buddhist temple, located on the southern outskirts of Phuket Town (see map), is greatly respected by the local Buddhist community. Considered the most beautiful and most ornate of Phuket's 29 Buddhist monasteries, it contains a gilt statue of Luang Por Cham, the monk who became a hero when he helped quell the Chinese Coolie rebellion of 1876, during the reign of King Rama V. The wat also has a statuette of the famous abbot Luang Por Gluam.

Wat Chalong, was built in 1837.The architecture is typical of Wats found throughout Thailand.A recent addition to the temple is a 61.4-meter high chedi containing the Phra Borom Sareerikatat relic, a piece of the Lord Buddha's bones brought over from Sri Lanka. The chedi is a mixture of southern, central and northeastern architectural styles and is the first in this region to house the holy Buddha's relic.

Several Thais come here to receive the blessings of the monks and a good luck charm in the form of a string tied around the wrist, which they believe guards them from injury and illness.
At the Wat Chalong in Phuket you may have your fortune told by some unique method.
